Guidelines for the application of the Finnish-Swedish Ice Class Rules

• additional information on the background of the ice class rules and their application
• a unified interpretation of certain items in the rules the application of which has caused disagreement, and
• guidelines on full-scale tests and model tests.

The Guidelines will enter into force on 1 January 2012.

They supersede the Guidelines on the Application of the Finnish-Swedish Ice Class Rules (No. 2228/30/2005) issued by the Finnish Maritime Administration on 16 December 2005.

The Guidelines are published only in English as they are mainly applied by the classification societies when they are approving ships' drawings and calculations.

The Guidelines (20.12.2011, TRAFI/31298/03.04.01.01/2011) can be downloaded from the website www.trafi.fi and are also obtainable from the Finnish Transport Safety Agency.
