Air traffic controllers and flight information service officers are trained in Finland by Avia College, a training organisation which is owned by the Finnish airport operator and air navigation service provider Finavia. The organisation operates in Vantaa. It provides both basic, continuation and refresher training in the field of air navigation services.
Air traffic controllers are tasked with ensuring the safety and orderly flow of air traffic. The air traffic controller directs and monitors air traffic, provides information on weather conditions and assists authorities in search and rescue operations where necessary.
The Finnish Transport Safety Agency issues the necessary training approvals to Avia College and oversees it by regular inspections, covering the training programmes, personnel and the quality of instruction.
