Marine pollution prevention

The Baltic Sea has been designated as a special area under the MARPOL 73/78 Convention. To protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea area from pollution, every ship entering the area is urged to comply with the anti-pollution regulations of the Helsinki Convention.

Detailed information on the regulations applied is available in the Clean Seas Guide 2009 of the Helsinki Commission.
