The second expert meeting about the safety of flights over the Baltic Sea area will be organised in Helsinki on 31 March – 1 June 2017 in co-operation with the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO.
Besides representatives from Baltic Sea coastal states, i.e. Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden, participants from NATO, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) have once again been invited to the meeting. The meeting will be chaired by Chief Adviser Kari Siekkinen of Trafi.
The meeting will continue finalising the measures that were agreed upon in the previous meeting in March. In the previous meeting it was agreed, among other things, that operating procedures to comply with best practices in aviation will be widely collected and published for the use of the international aviation community. The meeting also discussed the use of transponders, and the participants shared the view that increasing the use of transponders would be one element to enhance the traffic picture at air traffic control, thus further improving flight safety.
