The purpose of the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) is to enhance the safety organisation on board ships and prevent the pollution of the marine environment.
The International Ship and Port Facility Code (ISPS Code) contains rules intended to enhance the security of ships and associated port facilities.
Both codes have been drafted and adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The codes have been incorporated in the SOLAS Convention and made mandatory within the EU by the adoption of two EU regulations.
ISM and ISPS audits and verifications are carried out by Trafi's inspectors. ISM audits may also be carried out by classification societies.
