Driving examination

You must pass a driving examination to ensure that you have mastered the skills and knowledge contained in the syllabus, and are able to apply them as a responsible driver on the road.

In order to take a driving examination, you must fulfil the age requirement and have a valid driving licence permit. If this is the first time you are applying for a licence in a certain category, you must also have completed the required instruction for the licence category in question. However, not all first-time licence categories require a course of driving instruction (for example, T and BE).

The police may require you to retake your driving examination if, for example, you have been convicted of traffic offences.

Ajovarma Oy is providing the driving examination services.

Theory test

You must pass the driving examination's theory test to ensure that you know the rules and regulations of the road. A theory test pass is valid for one year. For those applying for a driving instruction permit, a theory test pass is valid for three years.

If your driving examination requires both a theory and practical test, you may take your theory test one month before you fulfil the age requirement.

Handling test

You must pass the driving examination's handling test to ensure that you have the required skills to handle your vehicle.

You can receive a Category AM/120 driving licence by passing a handling test (that is, without a driving test on the road).

Driving test

You must pass the driving examination's driving test to ensure that you have achieved the targets set in the syllabus and are able to drive safely and smoothly on the road.

In order to take your driving test, you must have completed the minimum amount of instruction for the category in question, have passed your theory test, and have passed your handling test (if one is required for that category).
